Volunteers are the heart and soul of the VNA. All you need is caring attitude and willingness to help make a difference. Being a VNA volunteer is a rewarding experience. We have a variety of opportunities with flexible hours to work with your busy schedule.
With every volunteer position, you will be making a difference in the lives of thousands of people in the Omaha, Council Bluffs and surrounding communities. All VNA Volunteers are invited to an annual Recognition Banquet and a Holiday Tea that bring together volunteers from all areas to meet and share their experiences.
For more information on the volunteer opportunities at the VNA, please contact Joannie Bowers, Volunteer Coordinator, at (402) 930-4177, or jbowers@thevnacares.org.

Flu Clinic volunteers assist VNA nurses with necessary paperwork and clinic setup at community-based flu clinics each fall. Volunteers work four-hour shifts and receive a free flu shot.
Hospice is dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients facing terminal illness. Volunteers help our team by offering companionship, as well as caregiver relief. Volunteers complete 16 hours of hospice training prior to being assigned to an individual’s home, nursing facility, or Hospice House. Hospice volunteers may also choose to assist in bereavement or clerical duties.
VNA Teens (14 years and older) volunteer their time making a difference in the lives of hospice and nursing home patients. Teens decide what they would like to do, such as group projects, visiting patients, recording a patient’s life history, or computer projects. Teens fit their volunteering into their own schedules, and receive hospice training to assure they are comfortable with their volunteer experience.
Office and Clerical volunteers help with a variety of duties at the VNA office. Volunteers assemble packets, file, copy, do computer work, or help with mailings. These volunteers are crucial to the day-to-day operations of the VNA. Volunteers are needed on a weekly, biweekly and monthly basis, as well as for special projects.
Patient Advocate/Visitation volunteers visit VNA patients in area care facilities on a weekly or biweekly basis. Volunteers provide companionship and conversation, as well as support for the patient concerning his/her healthcare.
Project Next Step volunteers assist individuals in transition from homelessness to independence. Volunteers pick up and deliver donated items, such as kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies and linens, to individuals and families beginning the “next step” in their lives.
Throughout the year, VNA needs volunteers to assist with special events. Help is needed from planning to setup so volunteers can choose what works best for their interest, time and schedule.
Your financial contribution to the VNA Foundation helps provide quality health care services to those in need within our community.
