Interview with Dr. Rebecca Reilly
Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
Would you like to tell us about your family?
My husband, Jim, is a surgeon and we have two daughters, Annie, age 13 and Kacie, age 11. There are also two dogs in the family, Lucky and Lady.
When did you decide that you wanted a career in healthcare?
My dad, Dan Bohi, is a doctor and my mom, when she worked, was a receptionist at Physician's Clinic. I don't remember ever considering any careers except nursing, physical therapy and medicine.
Where did you receive your education?
Central High School, Princeton University, UNMC for Medical School and Internal Medicine Residency, and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for Geriatric Fellowship.
What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
Developing relationships with my patients and their families.
What activities do you enjoy on your time off?
I like to spend time with my family and some close friends. I also love to read. My daughters are both Girl Scouts and I enjoy helping with their troops.
Do you have a favorite food, style of music, television program, or book?
My favorite food is, of course, chocolate. I like rock and roll music and movies I can watch with my kids. My favorite book of all time is East of Eden by John Steinbeck.
What trends do you see for home healthcare?
I believe that the aging population and the trend toward less invasive surgical procedures will continue to increase the need for homecare.
Why is the VNA your agency of choice?
The VNA has provided high quality, reliable care to my patients for the last twenty years. Through all of Medicare's changes over that time, the VNA has taken excellent care of my older patients.
Do you have any advice for someone who might be considering a career in medicine?
It is the best job there is. If you are interested, you should go for it.
