Prevent the Flu

Ways to Help Prevent the Flu

You may reduce the risk of getting the flu and other viral respiratory infections if you:

  • Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.
  • Sneeze and cough into your elbow and not into your hands where they’re more likely to spread bacteria and viruses through touch.
  • Keep your hands away from your nose, eyes, and mouth. Viruses are most likely to enter your body through these areas.
  • Disinfect frequently-used surfaces often. The most contaminated surfaces include: phone receivers, doorknobs, refrigerator and microwave handles, kitchen faucets, and light switches.
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet.
  • Get regular exercise.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
